At MBC, we provide scientifically based cutting edge treatment and education to children with special needs including those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Center’s transdisciplinary model includes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration and family support. Our clinical services are available in our center or in the child’s home.
Comprehensive ABA services are provided year-round through one-to-one programming. Our initial emphasis is on the assessment of a student’s academic, social, verbal behavior and other behavioral repertoires. This guides the development of our individualized programming for each child. Once programming has been established, the focus is on the acquisition, generalization and fluency skills which are needed to promote independence and community participation. Oversight and supervision of program development and on-going analysis of student data within the home-based program is also available from our Board Certified Behavior Analysts.
At MBC we know what a crucial role families play in their child’s development. Our therapists are here to help you overcome the everyday challenges your may encounter having a child with special needs. Our family training sessions are centered on the basic principles of behavior, with particular focus on application of these principles within the home and community settings. These courses are designed for parents, family members, nannies, babysitters, caretakers and professionals who interact with children on the autism spectrum or those who have special needs.
Community Outreach & Family Training
The Center also provides outreach and training for community members and professionals. Our faculty is available to provide both consultation and outreach to individual families, schools, medical professionals, other educational support staff (bus drivers, matrons, paraprofessionals) and caregivers (extended family, nannies, babysitters, or respite workers).
Our services within the Center are designed for the assessment and support of individuals with challenging behaviors. These services begin with functional behavior assessment (FBA) or functional analysis (FA) of problem behaviors to determine the function of the target behavior(s). FBAs are FAs are conducted by Board Certified Behavior Analysts in conjunction with families and educational team members. A behavior intervention plan is then designed to replace the target behaviors with more appropriate behaviors. The assessment and behavior plan is followed by on-going support and training for families, caregivers, therapists and other individuals the student may have contact with to ensure consistency of the behavior plan’s application. The plan and data are continually analyzed to ensure its effectiveness. Behaviors supported through these assessment and treatment services may include (but are not limited to): injury to self or others, PICA (ingestion of non-edible items), stereotypy, toilet training, food selectivity, and other behaviors that interfere with educational or life function.
Home Based Programming
The Center provides comprehensive ABA programming in the home. We work with families to assess children and develop home programs for them based on their individual needs in their home and community. Program implementation and supervision is carried out by our well experienced and highly trained staff. In addition, parent/family training is a component of our home-based programming.
The related services division provides speech/language and occupational therapy services. All therapy sessions are 45 minutes in duration. Daily session notes are kept for each speech and OT session. These notes reflect the treatment rendered, progress towards goals, and other clinical notes on the student’s performance during each session.
